Paulette Adams Photography
Paulette Adams resides in North Brookfield and beautifully captures local and area landscapes as well as glimpses of wildlife and still life.
My introduction to the field of photography was working for Marvin Richmond’s Color Lab processing business on Harvard St. in Worcester. I learned how to process slides for color correction. I really enjoyed working there but life had other plans for me.
I married my husband who was in the military and spent the following 14 months in Germany where he was stationed. During that time, I bought my first 35 mm camera, a “gently used” Agfa. I photographed mainly landscapes and local architecture, so I’d have memories of my time there.
When I returned home, I bought an Olympus camera and a Canon Power shot which were ideal for taking casual, everyday photos, many of them focusing on family life.
After a while I began to feel that I was not getting the kinds of photos I really wanted from the point-and-shoot cameras, so I bought a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) Nikon D90 in 2008. It opened up so many possibilities as I experimented with images of wildlife, architecture, landscapes, and so many photos of my young grandson that he finally said, “Nana, you take too many pictures!”
In addition, I returned to my processing experience, but this time I was using digital software. In 2007, I worked on vintage photos assembled from the North Brookfield Historical Society, my own collection, and those of other long-time residents. After converting sepia-toned photos to clearer crisper black and white, I matted and mounted the collection for a Historical Society presentation, and later, an Open House at the Town House. In 2012, as part of the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the incorporation of North Brookfield, the collection was exhibited at the Congregational Church’s Fellowship Hall.
In 2010, a friend and I decided to join the Massasoit Art Guild Photo Group. We were welcomed by a very nice and talented group. I’ve enjoyed photo challenges and workshops over the years as well as exhibiting at the annual Art Guild Show and Sale, Cormier Jewelers, and the Richard Sugden Library. My work will be displayed at the Leicester Library in June through July.
Nikon cameras have been my go-to brand for the past 18 years. I would say my style of photography has evolved over the years. I’m a more spontaneous photographer who enjoys challenges. I feel a sense of accomplishment when others share their appreciation of my work during Photo Group meetings, at various photo exhibitions, and from friends on social media.
