The North Brookfield Town House

Restoration

Restore. Reopen. Revitalize.

Honoring the Past, Embracing the Present, and Building the Future

The North Brookfield Town House, an architectural masterpiece and a cornerstone of Main Street, has stood as a beacon of our community's heritage for generations. Though time and the elements have taken their toll, we are committed to bringing this beautiful building back to life and reopening it for the community’s use.

Constructed with elegance and a deep sense of community spirit, the North Brookfield Town House is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of our shared history.

Declared structurally unstable in 2002, it was closed due to safety concerns. Since then, the Friends have tirelessly worked alongside the Board of Selectmen to ensure its preservation and future restoration.

Together, we’ve accessed DEP Brownfields program funds for environmental cleanup, secured vital funding for structural repairs, and garnered support from local representatives to keep the building weather-tight and prepared for the next phases of restoration.

A Community Effort

Since our formation in 2006, the Friends have passionately advocated for the Town House, raising awareness and funds through a variety of initiatives. We’ve offered tours, hosted brainstorming sessions, and brought theatrical productions to our community, all in the name of preserving and revitalizing this cherished landmark.

Our efforts have led to significant milestones, including securing funding for essential repairs and completing feasibility studies to guide our renovation plans.

From the installation of temporary shoring to the repair and replacement of the bell tower, each step has brought us closer to our goal. The community’s support has been unwavering, with 81% of residents in favor of renovation, as revealed by a town-wide survey. This collective commitment underscores the importance of the Town House to North Brookfield’s identity and future.

Our current focus is on launching Phase I of the construction, with an estimated rehabilitation cost of $5,000,000.

We’ve secured substantial tax credit incentives from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Federal Government, and a vigorous capital campaign is underway to attract donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations.

These funds will help us not only restore the building, preserving the building's historical significance, but also ensure its sustainability for future generations.
